  • Now offers an array of dating categories such as single, senior, LGBTQ+, and interracial dating
  • Has a huge user base in the United Kingdom
  • The site is welcoming to LGBTQ+ users
  • Has useful and relevant dating blogs on the site
  • App is available for iOS users only

“As far as matchmaking sites go, Cupid is a keeper. There are just so many things to do on the site to keep you entertained. Aside from finding matches, you can also answer the quiz, complete your profile and swipe left or right on LikeBook. The inability to communicate with others for free will definitely dissuade some people, but once you're a premium member, you will be privy to a whole lot of features and perks to make the entire experience more enjoyable.”

Although the dating site has been around for a long time, it hasn't blossomed in numbers like its contemporaries. However, the user numbers for Cupid.com are still fairly decent as there are always several people online as proven by the number of people in the chatroom during peak hours. Similar to other matchmaking websites, Cupid is filled with users looking for a serious relationship or marriage. This doesn't mean that you can't look for fun or friendship in this site - in fact, you'll find a large number of users looking for something "not serious" as written on their profiles.

How does Cupid work?

  • Supports singles, LGBTQ+, and senior dating
  • Includes LikeBook swiping and Q-Match quizzes
  • Predominantly male users, active in the UK, ages 20-40s
  • Available on desktop and iOS; no Android app
  • Offers detailed profiles and Safe Mode for secure matchmaking

Cupid is a great option if you’re looking for a dating platform that caters to everyone, whether single, part of the LGBTQ+ community or even exploring senior dating. It keeps things fun and interactive with features like "LikeBook" for swiping and "Q-Match" quizzes to help you find someone who clicks with you. With over a million members and 500,000 active weekly users, you’ll find most people are in their 20s to 40s, and there’s a big focus on users from the UK. The site is super easy to use on desktop or iOS, though Android users might miss out. You can make your profile your own with detailed options, personality sliders, and even safety settings like "Safe Mode" to keep things secure. Plus, if you want to stand out, premium perks like boosting your visibility or browsing anonymously make it even easier to connect with someone special.

Making contact on Cupid ★★★★★ 3.0/5

  • Get suggested matches
  • Customized filter options
  • See who liked your profile
  • Activate 'Full Safe Mode'
  • Send 'winks'
  • Only premium members can send messages
  • Cupid has a chat function

All users get free suggested matches, but only paying members can communicate with them. Just like other dating sites, standard members only get limited contacting features. Free users can only send winks to profiles they like and can customize the site's member search filters. Users without a membership can only send messages to members with a paid membership. You can identify members with a paid membership by the green checkmark icon next to their profile name.

On the other hand, paying members get to send and receive messages, see who liked their profiles, and activate the 'Full Safe Mode'. This feature allows verified users to communicate with premium users.

Profile quality ★★★★★ 5.0/5

  • User can change their profile information anytime
  • Free users can only see 1 photo from other users
  • All profile information is public by default
  • Verifying your account puts you in the site's list of "safe" members
  • The site has several fields and text boxes you can fill out to make your profile unique
  • Profiles are very detailed
  • You can edit your profile information later

Profiles on Cupid.com are very comprehensive. The site has several text fields which users can fill out to show their personality or preferences. Some of the text fields you can fill out include:

  • Sexual orientation
  • Race
  • Education
  • Religion
  • Income/Employment
  • Physical attributes (Eye color, height, hair color, build)

You can describe yourself in more detail using the text box labelled About Me. What sets Cupid apart from a lot of dating sites is its Personality Sliders. At the bottom of your profile you'll see several attributes with sliders next to them. Evaluate your personality and adjust the sliders accordingly. For example, for the Extroverted slider, you can move the slider all the way to 100% if you are a sociable and outgoing person. However, if you're an introvert, you should keep the slider to 10% to 20%.

The Cupid app ★★★★★ 3.0/5

  • App follows the same blue-on-white theme that the desktop version possesses
  • Cupid's app is only available on iOS
  • Same number of features as the desktop version
  • User-friendly
  • Screens load easily

If you're familiar with Cupid's site, the app should feel very familiar to you. Aside from using the same layout and color scheme, the app is a mirror image of its desktop counterpart except with screens adapted for mobile use.The only difference is that the app uses your phone's location to display matches that are close to your current location. Even if doesn't offer anything new, it's still a great addition, especially for people who want to search for matches and chat with other users on the go.

Our field test ★★★★★ 3.0/5

When I first tried Cupid, I didn't know anything about it. After completing my profile and answering the quiz thing, I started looking at the search function for girls that look interesting. I would like and send a wink to all the girls I found pretty, and after around 5 minutes, I was pleased to find that one of them replied. I excitedly clicked on the message, only to be redirected to a page that told me I couldn't read messages unless I subscribed to a premium service. Well, that was a bummer, since I didn't want to spend money. I found a workaround - sort of. I found out that if I answer the quiz halfway, I could get a 50% discount on my premium membership. So I did that and got myself a premium membership. I also frequent the chatroom when I'm bored and I made a lot of friends from both sexes. Finding out that you have to pay to message people is still a bummer, but at least the 50% discount made up for it.

Design & usability

Design and Usability

Going through Cupid's entire website was a treat, because there were so many buttons to clicks and so many new features to discover. However, not everyone can appreciate this, as some users may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of features available to them. Even with all these features, the simple blue and white layout does help keep things very neat and organized.

Special features

Cupid's special features do more than just enhance the entire dating experience - they also ensure that you match with a person who is compatible to you.

LikeBook +

LikeBook is Cupid's suggested matching system. You are shown one random profile at a time with all the necessary information you need about that individual. You can either like the user or message them directly, or move on to the next profile.

Q-Match +

Q-Match, or Quiz Matching is the site's unique compatibility test. Cupid finds out more about who you are through statements regarding your personality, hobbies, interests, lifestyle, relationship views and reactions to certain situations. You can either agree or disagree with each statement shown. The more questions you answer, the more accurate your matches are. As an added bonus, you can get a 50% on your premium subscription if you answer at least 50% of all statements.

Cupid Arrow +

Just like any other dating site, Cupid has a premium subscription which gives users more perks and benefits. Aside from this subscription service, they also have Cupid Arrow, a collection of perks that you can purchase individually. Perks range from more visibility on search results to the ability to browse the site anonymously.

Safe Mode +

To ensure the safety of their users, Cupid has put together a feature called Safe Mode. This feature has three options: Off, Basic and Full. With Safe Mode off, anyone on the website can contact you. With Basic Safe Mode, only members of the website that are deemed reputable are able to contact you. If you have Full Safe Mode on, only verified users can contact you.

Wingman Barney +

Wingman Barney is your personal assistant on the website. He will contact you through the site's messaging function and give you tips and advice on how to success in online dating. He will also regularly give you reminders about things that you're lacking on your dating profile.
